Badger Lake Drifters - 3rd Annual Trip

January 24, 2008 16:03 by sledaddicts.com

Each year sledaddicts all over the world anticipate at least one weekend snowmobile getaway to their favorite riding area. Here in Newfoundland & Labrador, Canada we have amazing snowmobiling conditions during the winter. This year we decided to make one of our trips an annual event. We officially named our snowmobile party the Badger Lake Drifters getaway. This is our third trip to the area and it commonly entails alot of grub, drinks and poker during the night and as much snowmobiling as we can handle during the day.

Drift Busting is our favorite activity. Although they aren't too plentiful so far this season, we did manage to find a couple of areas to play in.

Here are a few highlights from our first weekend snowmobile trip at Badger Lake this year. Each year Bill & Donna Hennessy from GrandFalls-Windsor grant us access to their cabin on Crooked Lake to enjoy our favorite past time with a crew of hearty sledaddicts.

We would like to extend our thanks for the great accomodations.

When our Sledaddictions take over, we spend most of our time hunting for fresh powder and having a good laugh carving and getting stuck anywhere we can. With such an abundance of snow, its not difficult to get our daily fix of sledding.

Every day of riding delivers a unique adventure, especially when it comes to wildlife. We spotted these 4 young caribou while we were scouting a lakes shoreline for drifts.

We met this upset Bull moose unexpectedly on the groomed trail. There were a couple of scary minutes when we thought he was going to charge our sleds, but the young bull eventually managed his way off the trail after 15-20 minutes. Moose have been known to attack snowmobiles when they are stressed. This year moose have been hanging out on trails and roads to stay out of the deep snow where the are more vulnerable to predators.

We all spent ample time practicing our riding techniques, although none of us are pro's, we are getting better every ride we go on.

We don't stop for breaks very often, because we love to ride.

You'll find us riding well into the evening getting as much sledtime as possible, however by then we're all beat out from having so much fun. We head back to camp to talk about the amazing day of riding we had.

A long day of riding is followed by a delicious meal and a long nap.

Although groomed trails are nice, we prefer the unbeaten path, and there is plenty of virgin snow to ride in throughout the Central Newfondland Region. Our sled trips begin and end in our back yards, which is a big bonus when all this great snowmobile country is so accessible. We had no problem clocking over 300kms on the odometers this particular weekend. If you're interested in knowing more about our riding area don't hesitate to contact us with questions.

We go sledding every weekend, so stay tuned for more snowmobile getaway highlights from the Badger Lake Drifters  .

Winter Arrives Early

December 11, 2007 10:38 by sledaddicts.com

For many snowmobilers throughout NorthAmerica's snowbelt, the beginning of December 2007 is reminiscent of the Old fashioned winters we were all used too years ago.  It was almost too good to be true, as many of us pulled our sleds out of hibernation, to go for the first ride of the season so early.

After a couple of phone calls on Friday, the plan was set for an early ride on saturday. Despite the lack of cold temperatures, there was a safe coverage of the white gold for us to ride one of our favorite locations around NewBay Lake east of GrandFalls-Windsor, NL, Canada.

Saturday morning I woke earlier than usual, perhaps due to all the anticipation. If you're like me, I get the "butterflies" feeling everytime I plan to go on a snowmobile ride. There's a sense of thrill with snowmobiling which always amazes me, and it's what defines my SledAddiction.

By 9AM the sleds were unloaded and idling as we strapped on our bags and dusted off the helmet visors. Many of the trails had already been well travelled by hunters, since it was the second last day of the Moose hunting season, who had been on the go since daybreak.

It didn't take too long for us to find a few roads were we could make the first tracks, and take turns practicing our power turns and boondocking in the powder. Every break would quickly lead into exclamations of how great it felt to be sledding again, and the banter of sled talk filled the air. New clutchinig, new decals, suspension upgrades and everything else we had been working on over the summer in preparation for this very moment. Ahhhhhhhhh ..... what a relief!!!

Over 100kms, Fresh air, White gold, Blue skies and great company all added up to a wonderful day of snowmobiling.

Here at SledAddicts.com, we wish you all an opportunity to get out for the first ride of the season very soon.
